During the state visit of former Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos in the State of Kuwait in September of 1997, the idea of establishing the Philippine International English School of Kuwait first came to be. It was during President Ramos’ meeting with His Highness, the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah, that he personally brought up to the Kuwaiti government the need to establish a Philippine School in Kuwait to cater to the educational development of Filipino children in the Gulf State.

However, the vision only became a reality when Ghazi Faisal Al Dabbous, the school proprietor, singlehandedly shouldered the funding of the school’s establishment.   The school first started its operation on April 12, 1999 and was later on inaugurated on April 17, 1999. The school offers pre-elementary, elementary, and secondary educational programs which follow the Philippine curriculum.

Under the ownership of Om Al-Qura Educational Est., a Filipino private school known as the New Kuwait Philippine International School (NKPIS) has been opened to the Filipino community in Kuwait back in 1999. NKPIS’s commitment in providing affordable and exceptional education that is generally Filipino in content, and is relevant to the needs and demands of the Filipino children and youth in general towards becoming well-rounded and wholly-integrated individuals and citizens of their country, has currently nurtured some 517 students in the pre-school, grade school, and high school levels.

The above-listed schools in Kuwait are official members of the Philippine Schools Overseas (PSOs) which are all registered educational institutions established overseas which implement the basic education program of the Department of Education (DepEd) outside the Philippines. These schools have valid permits to operate issued by their host country and are duly accredited by the Philippine Department of Education to carry out instruction based on the Philippine standard of academic curriculum.
