And while this is a tradition that is even taken advantage of by other people, the Kuwaiti government has also done its part to live by these practices to help citizens who are in need. Some of these people, because of financial difficulties, are even facing arrest warrants that could potentially land them in prison.

Considering all these things, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and State Minister for Municipality Affairs Fahd Al-Shulaa said the Awqaf Secretariat General has donated KD 500,000 to support the “gharimeen” (those in debt and are unable to pay back) campaign during the holy month of Ramadan, as shared in a report by the Kuwait Times.

According to Shulaa, the secretariat general seeks to remove arrest warrants against 400 Kuwaitis – 300 women and 100 men – in coordination with the Takaful society for care of prisoners, which studies deserving cases and guarantees that they meet the conditions to benefit from this support.

The initiative aims to keep families intact and avoid the effects of having a society full of broken families.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Evidence Department examined the fingerprints of around 15,000 suspects referred to it by various security sectors and the public prosecution in 2018. The decision aims to resolve unsolved cases and compare them to unidentified fingerprints found at various crime scenes.

In other related news, there have been around 4,500 expats, Arabs and Asians who have been deported from the country since the beginning of 2019.

Furthermore, all those deported were residence and labour law violators as well as those involved in petty crimes. The difference, however, is that the deportation of violators is quicker unlike before.

Meanwhile, the Directorate General for Investigation of Residence has issued a search warrant and called for the arrest of 800, mostly of Arab workers, who entered the country on fictitious companies. Similarly, authorities have also arrested two Kuwaitis on charges of visa trading.

Deportation or imprisonment, the consequences of either will always affect the families of the people involved. And while it is always important to follow the rule of law, such special instances of amnesty or pardon should not be taken lightly especially by the people who are granted with such privileges. Under the observance of Islamic culture, such benefits open doors to a new beginning, and to go back to what they value the most and to do the right thing the second time around.
