Kuwaiti Officials Address Restoring Normalcy for Filipino Workers in Kuwait

In line with the ongoing labour ban on Kuwait, the Gulf State’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Khaled Al-Jarallah disclosed that they have reached an agreement with Philippine officials to regulate the Filipino workforce in the country.

The preliminary deal was brought forth through the initiative of Filipino authorities, and is currently being reviewed by both countries before signing the final agreement, Al-Jarallah shared with the press after the parliamentary committee meeting regarding foreign affairs. One of the topics discussed in the meeting was the rising prices of domestic service. To this, the Deputy Foreign Minister explained that Kuwaiti Embassies abroad are working closely with their foreign counterparts to address the issue.

Bilateral Agreement Drafted to Address Standoff Between Philippines and Kuwait

Al-Jarallah further explained that His Highness Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has already extended his invitation to Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte to visit the State of Kuwait sometime next month noting that the situation, caused by the Filipino president’s remarks as of late, has settled now in Kuwait.  Furthermore, the Kuwaiti government sent a clear message to Filipino authorities that the standing issue has to be corrected, and that Filipino officials responded with “positive feedback” on this matter shared Al-Jarallah.

Al-Jarallah shared that as of the moment, the parliamentary committee is working on an investigation report regarding the Philippine president’s remarks that will be forwarded to the parliament.
