More than a year has passed since the body of a Filipina domestic helper was found inside a refrigerator in an abandoned apartment in Kuwait, which caused outrage from the Philippine government and almost permanently ended labour ties between the two nations.
What good that came out of the incident was that both countries were able to come up with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that details the rights of Filipino workers in Kuwait; rights that need to be protected and upheld by the Kuwaiti government. However, it seems that the MoU could not stop death cases involving Filipinos in the Gulf country, as this time another case comes into the picture once again.
Pinay OFW Found Dead Inside Apartment in Kuwait
The dead body of Nuhaida Munadjalun, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) based in Kuwait, has been recovered inside her apartment in Jleeb Al Shoyoukh in Kuwait. The body was found by the police without any clothes on, as shared in a video report by GMA News.
According to the report, one of Nuhaida’s friends found her body inside her apartment and reported the incident to authorities. By the time the police had arrived at the apartment, they noted that there was already discoloration on the victim’s foot. As of this time, there are no reports yet as to where authorities brought the victim’s body for investigation.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait, as well as the victim’s relatives, have already been informed of the incident. An investigation is still on-going to determine the cause of death and the possibility of foul play in this case.
According to a friend, Munadjalun was a former assistant teacher in a private school in Kuwait, but her visa had already expired since 2015. Because of this, Munadjalun had to borrow some money from her employer to rectify her status, but according to her friend’s statement, she had been cheated by her employer so she was left without a choice but to remain in the country while working part-time as a server during special occasions or events.

Another case of Filipino death in Kuwait in over a year should prompt authorities to launch an investigation to determine what the actual cause of death was and if there was indeed, foul play involved. Philippine authorities should look into how effective the memorandum of understanding stands in a country such as Kuwait, where foreign nationals are seemingly being treated as outcasts.
