Did you know that there are different ways to pay your Pag-IBIG Fund contribution? You can go to the bank, a remittance center, or simply make an online payment. This is especially convenient if you’re an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who’s often busy at work!
As part of Republic Act No. 9679 or the “Home Development Mutual Fund Law of 2009,” membership of OFWs to the HDMF or Pag-IBIG Fund is mandatory. On the other hand, for Filipino immigrants, permanent residents abroad, and those naturalized in other countries — membership with Pag-IBIG is voluntary.

Kuwait OFW’s Guide to Paying Pag-IBIG Contributions
Before discussing the different ways to pay contributions, let us take a quick look at what the Pag-IBIG Fund is, and the benefits it offers to OFW members.
What is Pag-IBIG?
“Pag-IBIG” stands for the phrase “Pagtutulungan sa kinabukasan: Ikaw, Bangko, Industriya, at Gobyerno.” Also known as the Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF), it is a government corporation that provides affordable housing loans and savings programs. The Pag-IBIG Fund is managed by the Philippine Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).
Vision and Mission
Based on its official website, the Pag-IBIG Fund’s vision is “for every Filipino worker to save with Pag-IBIG Fund, to achieve their dream of home ownership, and to improve their quality of life.”
Meanwhile, the Pag-IBIG Fund’s mission is “to generate more savings from more Filipino workers, to administer a sustainable Fund with integrity, sound financial principles, and with social responsibility, and to provide accessible funds for housing of every member.”
Programs and Benefits
Pag-IBIG Fund members, both inside and outside the Philippines, can access the following programs and benefits:
Pag-Ibig I Savings
Also known as “Regular Savings,” this is where your monthly contributions (now at PHP 200 a month) go. The great thing about this program is that it offers higher annual dividend earnings compared to commercial banks. When you retire, you will receive the Total Accumulated Value (TAV), which includes all of your monthly savings, the employer’s counterpart (if applicable), and dividend earnings.
Modified Pag-IBIG 2 (MP2) Savings
If you want to earn more, in addition to your Regular Savings, consider signing up for the Modified Pag-IBIG 2 (MP2) Savings, as it earns a higher dividend rate. You can start by contributing a minimum of PHP 500 per month, watch your savings grow, and withdraw it after a maturity period of five (5) years.
Housing Loan
Members can borrow up to PHP 6 million through the Pag-IBIG Fund Housing Loan. This amount may be used to: purchase a residential lot, purchase a residential house and lot, build a house, improve a house, refinance an existing housing loan, or to finance a combination of different housing purpose.
Calamity Loan
If your house has been struck by a typhoon, flood, or earthquake — or if your family has been affected by natural calamities — you can apply for Pag-IBIG Fund’s Calamity Loan, which provides immediate financial assistance. This loan amounts to a maximum of 80 percent of your Regular Savings, with a repayment period of 24 months or 36 months.
Health and Education Loan Programs (HELPs)
If you need financial assistance for you or your family’s health and educational expenses, this program is a great option. Just like the Calamity Loan, it offers up to 80 percent of your Regular Savings. The amount will be credited directly to the hospital and/or school concerned, for faster and simplified processing.
Multi-Purpose Loan
Similar to the Calamity Loan and HELPs, the Multi-Purpose Loan (MPL) offers loans up to 80 percent your Regular Savings, payable over a 24-month period. The MPL may be used for various purposes, such as minor home improvements, children’s tuition, or even additional capital for a small business.
